Do you disagree with a spouse over child support spending?

On Behalf of | May 25, 2017 | Family Law |

While in the process of a divorce, it may appear that there are countless issues that need to be addressed, such as property division and possibly alimony. If there are children involved, things are often further compounded. Parents always prioritize their children, and will fight hard to get their wishes when it comes to child custody and child support.

Once child custody has been established, the courts will look at several factors to determine what, if any, should be awarded in the form of child support. But, what does child support include? Contrary to the beliefs of many Americans, child support can go well beyond the basic necessities of shelter, food and clothing.

Child support payments may be used for a child’s medical expenses, educational costs, extra-curricular activities such as field trips, club expenses, sports and sporting equipment, tutoring, as well as entertainment costs, such as, but not limited to, trips to a zoo, the movies, amusement parks or even for games, toys and video games and consoles. This is not universally known, and it is not uncommon for one spouse to not fully understand the law.

At our law firm, we do our best to help our clients who are in the midst of a divorce and need help in the family law arena with issues such as child custody, child support, alimony, property division or even grandparents’ rights. Our goal is to help our clients in Pennsylvania ensure that they receive the best resolution possible in their own unique circumstances.
