Crack down on drunk driving in place through Labor Day holiday

Drunk driving charges should be taken seriously. In a Pennsylvania community east of the State College area police are cracking down on drunk motorcycle riding and other types of drunk driving. Authorities recently announced the drunk driving enforcement campaign. Both state and national messaging, along with increased enforcement, is hoped to reduce impaired motorcycle riding and drunk driving on the nation's roadways. Authorities will be conducting zero-tolerance patrols for impaired driving. The enforcement period will extend through the Labor Day holiday.

In addition, a new law will soon go into effect in Pennsylvania that will allow individuals with a first-time conviction for driving under the influence to elect to have an ignition interlock device installed on their vehicle rather than have their license suspended for a year. A vehicle with an ignition interlock device will not start if the driver is impaired.

The consequences of a DUI conviction are serious and can be significant. Accused individuals can face both criminal penalties and administrative consequences such as license suspension. They can face potential jail time and steep fines as well. Because of the serious consequences and penalties associated with DUI charges, it is equally important that accused individuals are familiar with the criminal defense options available to them.

There are a variety of methods for challenging DUI charges based on the situation and circumstances the accused individual find themselves in. The criminal justice system provides important protections that accused individuals should be familiar with which allows them to challenge the charges they are facing and to seek reduced charges or penalties, among other options.
